I am inspired and just so grateful that everyone is now safe.Eugene Lhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08648888586342911301noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7270367851662867500.post-20019235284133234002015-06-02T11:26:07.821-07:002015-06-02T11:26:07.821-07:00I have updated the date! Yes, we did believe that time was of the essence, and knowing enough about SAR to know that it was going to take responders time to get to the scene, we thought it was better to try something than do nothing. Hearing from someone like you who is intimately involved with rescue timelines/scenarios that you feel we took the correct course of action is reassuring. indigosagehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06391675361422794981noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7270367851662867500.post-64281455869606470912015-06-02T11:05:43.620-07:002015-06-02T11:05:43.620-07:00As a long-time member of Portland Mountain Rescue ...As a long-time member of Portland Mountain Rescue (and Mazama) I must congratulate those involved in this rescue. Your "equipment" was certainly less than ideal. (Do I get points for understatement on that?) However, it was better to use what you had than wait for us at the probable expense of a death. I can't think of anything I would have done differently in that situation.

And you were certainly correct to act when you did. I was on my way but it would have taken me at least an hour to reach the trailhead, then more time to reach the scene. Other PMR members live closer but still would not have arrived very soon.

My only criticism of this article is that you got the date wrong. I believe it was May 31, not March.Hal Lillywhitehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05532281493474571590noreply@blogger.com
